Joe Rogan reassured by Conor McGregor and fight doctor as he worries about Chris Weidman’s leg breaking again at UFC 292

Joe Rogan was worried about Chris Weidman breaking his leg again at UFC 292.

The MMA legend sat cageside when Weidman snapped his right leg with the first strike he threw against Uriah Hall at UFC 261 in April 2021.

Rogan was in the commentary booth 847 days later to watch the former UFC champion make his comeback against Brad Tavares at the TD Garden in Boston.

Moments before Weidman’s return bout got underway, the popular podcaster expressed his concerns about how the 39-year-old’s leg would hold up.

“If it breaks again, I’m going to cry,” Rogan said.

Conor McGregor, who suffered a similar injury at UFC 264 in July 2021, took to social media to assure the 56-year-old that Weidman’s right leg is pretty much indestructible at this point.

“Joe, the bar inside the leg CANNOT snap,” he tweeted.

‘Notorious’ has often bragged about his ‘titanium shin bone’ after getting a metal rod put inside his leg to repair the tibia and fibula he fractured during a trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier.

He’ll look to bounce back when he takes on Michael Chandler after putting his previously broken leg to the test while sparring with Ultimate Fighter contestants earlier this year.

McGregor’s comment was quickly backed up by Dr David Abbasi who is known for posting videos about MMA injuries and educating fans about the medical side of fight sports.

“Chris Weidman leg won’t break again on a leg kick Joe,” he confirmed.

As predicted by McGregor and Abassi, Weidman’s right leg held up throughout his return fight, but Rogan still found it difficult to watch.

Tavares utilised kicks throughout the 15-minute affair and Weidman ended up limping out of the Octagon after his left leg was badly beaten up during a unanimous decision defeat.

Following his seventh loss in nine fights, it’s currently unclear if the 39-year-old will continue to compete if he's not going to be a title contender.

Weidman hoped to dethrone Israel Adesanya in a few fights time, but it was clear on Saturday night that he is no longer capable of beating the best.
